Welcome, and thank you for supporting women in African media. These terms explain how this platform works and what you can expect from us and from the coalition members you give to. Please read them before you donate or create an account. By using the platform, you agree to them.
1. Who we are
The AWiM Sustainability Coalition (the “Coalition”) brings together independent organisations that protect and advance women in media across Africa (“Coalition Members”). AWiM is the founding anchor member and runs the shared platform, vetting process and impact reporting. AWiM does not control other Coalition Members or direct their programmes.
2. What the platform does
The platform lets yoou
- give to a specific Coalition Member,
- give to the Solidarity Fund, which supports all Coalition Members equally,
- become a matching partner, corporate supporter or unrestricted funder, and
- follow fundraising progress and impact through the public dashboard.
The Coalition is a platform for fundraising, visibility and collective advocacy. It is not a merger. Every Coalition Member keeps full independence over its strategy, programmes, governance and brand.
3. Who can use the platform
You must be at least 18 and able to enter into a binding agreement. If you give on behalf of a company or organisation, you confirm you have the authority to do so. Please give us accurate information and keep it up to date.
4. Making a donation
You can give once or monthly, to a Coalition Member or to the Solidarity Fund. Amounts and currencies available are shown at checkout.
Payments are handled by our payment partners. Donors based in Africa are routed to Paystack (cards, bank transfer and mobile money). International donors are routed to Stripe (major credit and debit cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay). We detect your location automatically, and you can switch processors manually if you prefer. Their own terms apply to your payment, and we are not responsible for their services.
We never store your full card number on our servers.
Standard payment processing fees are deducted from your donation before it is passed on. [OPTIONAL: You can choose to cover these fees at checkout.]
5. Where your donation goes
Donations to a specific Coalition Member. We transfer your donation to that organisation within 72 hours, minus standard payment processing fees.
Donations to the Solidarity Fund. The fund is split equally among all [SIX] Coalition Members. There is no discretion: amounts are calculated and transferred automatically each month, and every member receives the same share regardless of size, fundraising progress or cause area.
Unrestricted giving. If you give unrestricted support, the recipient organisation decides where it is needed most within its charitable mission.
Currency conversion and bank charges may apply to transfers and are outside our control.
6. Recurring donations
Monthly gifts continue until you change or cancel them. If you have a donor account, you can change the amount, switch to a different organisation, pause or cancel from your dashboard at any time. You can also email [SUPPORT EMAIL] and we will process your request within two working days.
Changes made at least [X] days before your next payment date apply to that payment. If a payment fails, we may retry [X] times before pausing your gift and letting you know.
7. Refunds
Donations are gifts and are generally not refundable. We will refund a donation that was made in error, duplicated, or made without your authorisation, if you contact us within [30] days of the payment at [SUPPORT EMAIL]. Refunds go back to the original payment method, and timing depends on your bank or payment processor. [If a donation has already been transferred to a Coalition Member, we will ask them to return it and will keep you informed.]
8. Receipts, tax and Gift Aid
Every donation triggers an email receipt showing the amount, date, recipient organisation and frequency. Account holders can download past receipts and request an annual giving statement.
Whether your donation is tax deductible depends on where you live and which organisation you support. Each Coalition Member is a registered nonprofit in its own country. UK taxpayers giving to UK-registered organisations may be eligible for Gift Aid, which adds 25% at no extra cost to you. We do not give tax advice, so please check with a tax advisor for your own situation.
9. Giving anonymously
At checkout, you can untick the option to share your name with the recipient organisation. Your donation still counts toward the public fundraising total, but your identity is not shared with the organisation.
10. Matching gifts, corporate support and partnerships
Funders and corporate partners agree their terms with us in writing before any matching, sponsorship or partnership starts. Supporting a cause area or an organisation does not give a partner any control over editorial content, programmes, governance or strategy of AWiM or any Coalition Member. Using the names or logos of the Coalition or its members requires prior written permission.
11. Coalition Members and vetting
To join, an organisation must show at least three years of active programming with measurable outcomes for women in African media, transparent financial governance with independently audited accounts, alignment with the Coalition’s mission, and a contribution to regional diversity. AWiM leads vetting with input from an independent advisory panel. Vetting usually takes four to six weeks, and applying does not guarantee acceptance.
Coalition Members are responsible for their own programmes, staff and use of funds. Members may leave the Coalition at any time.
If credible evidence of fund misuse emerges, the member is suspended pending investigation. Donors who gave to that organisation are told and offered the chance to redirect their donations. The Coalition is governed by a steering committee made up of one representative from each member plus an independent chair.
12. Your account
If you create a donor account, please keep your login details safe and tell us straight away if you think someone else has used them. You are responsible for activity on your account. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms.
13. Acceptable use
Please do not:
- use the platform for fraud, money laundering or to test stolen payment details,
- pretend to be someone else or misrepresent your affiliation,
- try to break, overload or gain unauthorised access to the platform,
- scrape or copy the platform’s data or content at scale, or
- use the platform in any way that breaks the law.
14. Impact figures and content
Fundraising totals, impact statistics and member information come from the platform and from reports submitted by Coalition Members. We work hard to keep them accurate and current, but they are provided for information only. Nothing on the platform is financial, legal or tax advice.
15. Intellectual property
The platform’s design, text and materials belong to AWiM or its licensors. Logos and content supplied by Coalition Members belong to those members. You are welcome to share links and quote us with credit. Please ask before reusing content commercially.
16. Privacy and cookies
We collect only what we need to process your donation and send receipts. If you opt in, we will send quarterly impact updates. We never sell, rent or share your personal data with third parties, other than the payment processors needed to take your gift and, unless you give anonymously, the organisation you donate to. You can ask us to delete your data at any time. Please read our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy for full details.
17. Availability
We aim to keep the platform running smoothly, but we cannot promise it will always be available or error free. We may update, suspend or change features when we need to, for example for maintenance or security.
18. Our responsibility to you
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
Otherwise, to the extent the law allows, the platform is provided as it is, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, for failures of payment processors or other third parties, or for the actions of Coalition Members. Our total liability to you in connection with any donation is limited to the amount of that donation.
19. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top shows when they last changed. If we make a significant change, we will email account holders and recurring donors. Using the platform after an update means you accept the new terms.
